The DeCastro Sisters were a Cuban vocal trio that had several hits in the United States in the 1950s.

history

The trio consisted of the three sisters Peggy DeCastro (1921-2004), Cherie DeCastro (1922-2010) and Babette DeCastro (1925-1992). When Babette left the group in 1958, she was replaced by a cousin, Olgita DeCastro Marino (1931-2000). The DeCastro Sisters' career began in Cuba, where their father owned a sugar cane plantation. They celebrated their greatest successes in Las Vegas in the 1950s.

In 1954, the DeCastro Sisters, who had received a recording deal with Abbott Records , landed their biggest hit Teach Me Tonight with their first single , which reached number 3 on the Billboard charts and stayed in the charts for 19 weeks. Their second release for Abbott also reached the top 20, Boom Boom Boomerang came in at number 17 in the juke box charts, in the best-seller charts to number 24, after their two following singles Too Late Now and Snowbound for Christmas only reached the lower ranks of the charts, the DeCastro Sisters switched to RCA Records in 1956 , where they only had a small success with It's Yours , accompanied by the Joe Reisman Orchestra. In the late 1950s they were signed to ABC Records , their last hit was a new version of their big hit in 1959 under the title Teach Me Tonight Cha Cha , which they recorded with the Don Costa orchestra.
