To the southeast of Beinn Fhionnlaidh , Beinn Sgulaird is somewhat isolated from the mountains to the north. To the west it falls to the east end of Loch Creran , a branch of Loch Linnhe , down to sea level , to the east it is separated from Loch Etive by the 839 meter high Beinn Trilleachan . The mountain has a total of four peaks along its summit ridge, which runs roughly from southwest to northeast. The south-westerly nameless, 863 meter high pre-summit is also the starting point of the long west ridge that slopes down into Glen Creran. This is followed to the northeast by the 848 meter high Meall Garbh , then the main summit. To the northeast is the 690 meter high Stob Gaibhre . To the north of Beinn Sgulaird drops steeply and Schrofen into Glen Ure from.

You can climb the Beinn Sgulaird from several directions. The easiest climb leads from the small settlement of Druimavuic at the end of Loch Creran to Coire Buidhe, south of the Beinn Sgulaird, and from there over the west ridge to the southernmost pre-summit. The following summit ridge is partly riddled with rocks and requires easy climbing in individual places. Other pick-up points are made of the Glen Ure, either to the east ausholend over the Stob Gaibhre or by a steep Kar in the west side.
