The Sgor an Lochain Uaine ( Gaelic for peak above the small green mountain lake ) is a mountain in the Cairngorms in the highlands of Scotland . The summit is the third highest point in the western massif of the Cairngorms and lies between Braeriach and Cairn Toul west of the Lairig Ghru pass . It wasn't until 1997 that the mountain was added to the Munros list when the Scottish Mountaineering Club revised its mountain lists.

The Sgor at Lochain Uaine is a remote mountain. All routes to the summit are long day tours according to Scottish standards. It is usually climbed in connection with other peaks: When climbing from the south in connection with the Cairn Toul and The Devil's Point , whereas on the northern route the Braeriach has to be crossed first. The southern route, which begins at the Linn of Dee rapids on the River Dee near the village of Braemar , can be ridden by mountain bikes for much of the route .

Naming

The name of the mountain refers to the mountain lake in the north-east of the summit Kar , which is Gaelic An Lochaon Uaine (roughly: small green lake). Sometimes the mountain is also Angel's Peak ( dt. Engel tip) mentioned, such as the Ordnance Survey cards. However, this name did not appear until the 19th century, probably in relation to the nearby The Devil's Point .
