Loch Torridon (in Gaelic Loch Thoirbheartan ) is a sea ​​loch in the Highlands on the west coast of Scotland . It is divided into three parts by two isthmuses, in the mouth area the up to five kilometers wide Outer Loch Torridon , then Loch Shieldaig and finally inland Upper Loch Torridon . The fishing in Loch Torridon has a long tradition. Today, Loch Torridon is home to several salmon farms . Fishing in Loch focused since the 1960s on fishing for nephrops ( scampi ), besides also are lobster , shrimp and shellfish fished. Around 20 boats are based in the coastal towns, after tourism , fishing is the most important branch of the economy. The Loch Torridon fishery was among the first to receive the Marine Stewardship Council's seal of approval for sustainable fishing. However, it was revoked again in January 2011 due to overfishing.
