The Meall Garbh is a 1,118 meter high mountain in Scotland . Its Gaelic name means rough mountain or rough round hill . Classified as Munro , the mountain is part of the Perthshire mountain range on the north bank of Loch Tay , the highest peak of which is the neighboring Ben Lawers to the south . A total of seven peaks of the mountain range are classified as Munro.

The summit area of Meall Garbh, on the right the neighboring An Stùc

In contrast to its southern neighbor in the Ben Lawers group, An Stùc , which is conspicuous due to its conical shape , Meall Garbh has a broad, gently sloping summit plateau, which only merges into a narrow mountain ridge at the transition to An Stùc . In the other directions the mountain runs out with broad grassy slopes, only somewhat steeper and interspersed with rocks on the south and south-east side. In the summit chain to the east, the somewhat lower Meall Greigh is adjacent, a broad ridge offers an easy transition here. To the south, the Meall Garbh towers over the small lake Lochan nan Cat below the summit . Like Ben Lawers, the mountain belongs to the National Trust for Scotland , the entire mountain range is designated as a National Nature Reserve .

Munro excavators like to climb Meall Garbh when they cross the entire mountain range together with their neighbors. The transition to An Stùc is steep and only suitable for sure-footed mountain hikers. Starting points are either the small town of Lawers, southeast of the mountain range on the banks of Loch Tay, or the National Trust visitor center located west of Ben Lawers on the narrow road connecting Loch Tay and Glen Lyon.
