The A 'Mhaighdean ( The Virgin in Gaelic ) is a 967 meter high mountain in Scotland . It is located in Wester Ross in the Council Area Highland east of Fionn Loch and north of Lochan Fada and Slioch in the Fisherfield Forest and is one of the Munros .
The A 'Mhaighdean consists mainly of gneiss , only the northwestern part of the summit structure consists of torridonic sandstone . To the west and north, the summit drops with a steep rock face to Fionn Loch and its easternmost bay, known as Loch Dubh , as well as to Gorm Loch Mor, located directly below the summit . The approach from Poolewe leads over the north-west ridge . To the east, the neighboring Ruadh Stac Mòr , also a Munro at 918 m , joins over a 750 m high saddle . The A 'Mhaighdean runs out over flatter grass slopes only to the southeast.
A 'Mhaighdean is considered to be one of the most remote Munros in Scotland and can only be reached by long hikes. Both from Kinlochewe in the south and Poolewe in the northwest, the distance from the end of the last public road is well over 20 kilometers. The view from its summit in the middle of the Letterewe Wilderness is rated as one of the most beautiful in Scotland.
