The An Teallach ( The Anvil or The Forge in Gaelic ) is a mountain range up to 1,062 meters high in Scotland and is located in Wester Ross in the Highland Council Area . It is located in the northern part of the Fisherfield Forest , a poorly developed and largely uninhabited area between Kinlochewe , Poolewe and Ullapool .

The An Teallach massif from the summit of A 'Mhaighdean

The An Teallach massif stretches in a semicircle to the east around the small Loch Toll an Lochain and consists of ten larger peaks, two of which, the Bidean a 'Ghlas Thuill (or Bidein a' Ghlas Thuill , 1,062 m) and the two Meters lower Sgùrr Fiona than Munros are classified. Until 1981 the Sgùrr Fiona was only rated as top .

The An Teallach consists mainly of torridonic sandstone . Similar to the mountains near Torridon , the An Teallach has steep, slightly terraced summit areas through which deep gullies and corries run down into the valley. The ridge between the two main peaks, which slopes steeply on both sides, is studded with pinnacles and pinnacles. Crossing the ridge is therefore a serious mountain tour that requires a head for heights and surefootedness . Starting points for tours to An Teallach are along the A832 near Dundonnell on Little Loch Broom , an inlet south of Ullapool.

The An Teallach is one of the most beautiful, but also the most difficult Scottish mountains. In a readers' poll of a British outdoor magazine, it took first place together with the Ladhar Bheinn , the Ben Nevis , the Liathach and the Buachaille Etive Mòr , as well as in the classification by the users of a Scottish hiking website.
