The A832 road is an A-road in the Scottish Council Area Highland . It is considered to be one of the most scenic roads through the Highlands , especially in the western part . With small interruptions it connects the east and west coast and opens up a sparsely populated part of the Highlands.

course

The road begins at the ferry terminal in Cromarty on the Black Isle , northeast of Inverness . From the ferry terminal, a car ferry crosses the Cromarty Firth to Nigg Ferry, south of Tain . From Cromarty the A832 runs along the south bank of the Black Isle on the Moray Firth via Fortrose to the roundabout with the important north-south connection of the A9 and the A835 . To the west of this, the road briefly touches the north bank of the Beauly Firth , before crossing the A833 and the Far North Line in Muir of Ord . About 10 kilometers west of Muir of Ord, the A832 joins the A835 again, shortly after crossing the River Conon on the Moy bridge. Together with the A835, the A832 runs south of Strathpeffer along the Blackwater to the small village of Garve on the Kyle of Lochalsh Line . While the A835 runs directly north-west towards Ullapool , the A832 continues west, always parallel to the Kyle of Lochalsh Line to the small village of Achnasheen , along Loch Luichart and Loch Achanalt . In Achnasheen the A890 branches off towards Kyle of Lochalsh . The A832 runs through the scenic Glen Docherty to the northwest to Kinlochewe . There the A896 branches off to Torridon and Shieldaig .

North of Kinlochewe begins the most scenic part of the A832, which runs through some of the most remote areas of the Northwest Highlands . First, it passes between up to 1,010 meters high massif of Beinn Eighe , a Biosphärenreservat of UNESCO and the hole Maree . On the south bank, the road runs along most of Loch Maree until it turns west. The road reaches Gairloch on the west coast via a short section, which is still run as a single track road . North of Gairloch, the road offers sweeping views of the Outer Hebrides and the northern tip of the Isle of Skye . The A832 continues along the coast, but cuts off various peninsulas. In Poolewe it reaches Loch Ewe and passes Inverewe Garden . This is followed by the small villages of Aultbea and Laide , at Gruinard Bay the A832 passes Gruinard Island . Through largely uninhabited area, the A832 finally runs north of An Teallach , which towers up to 1062 meters, along the banks of Little Loch Broom and passes the small settlement of Dundonnell , followed by the gorge of the Dundonnell River . About 20 km after Dundonnell, the A832 ends at Braemore Junction, the junction with the A835.

The A832 has a total length of 184.3 km, not counting the section on the A835 between the north end of the Moy bridge over the River Conon and Garve. In the Council Area's “Local Plan Wester Ross”, the A832 and the A835 are to be secured as a “scenic route” due to their natural beauty.

Between Muir of Ord and Achnasheen and between Kinlochewe and Braemore Junction, the A832 is part of the North Coast 500 holiday route .
