Buachaille Etive Beag is separated from Buachaille Etive Mòr to the east and better known due to its striking north-east face towering at the entrance of Glen Coe by the Lairig Gartain valley. Both mountain ranges run from Glen Coe roughly parallel to the southwest to Glen Etive . The massif is separated from the neighboring Bidean nam Bian by the Lairig Eilde . The two main peaks, classified as Munros and Marilyns, are the 958-meter-high Stob Dubh (Gaelic Black Peak or Black Summit ) at the southwest end of the massif and the 925-meter high Stob Coire Raineach (Gaelic tip of the ferny Kars ), which is set back slightly from the northeast At the end of the massif. The latter has only been classified as an independent Munro since 1997, previously it was only considered the Munro-Top of the Buachaille Etive Beag. In the direction of Glen Coe, the Stob Coire Raineach is preceded by the Stob nan Cabar, which towers above the valley .

Due to its location on Glen Coe and the relatively short approach it makes possible, the two peaks of the Buachaille Etive Beag are among the peaks popular with Munro excavators , even if both are lower than their western and eastern neighbors. The starting point is a parking lot on the A82 at the top of Glen Coe. From there, the path climbs continuously up the eastern side of the Lairig Eilde valley and steepens south to the 748 meter high Mam Buidhe , the striking saddle between the two main peaks. To the southwest, along the ridge and over a 902 meter high pre-summit, Stob Dubh can be reached as the highest point. To the northeast, a short steep climb leads to the Stob Coire Raineach. Another way to get to Mam Buidhe is from the Lairig Gartain .
