The Càrn Mòr Dearg ( Great Pointed Red Mountain in Gaelic ) is a 1220 meter high mountain in Scotland . It is the ninth highest mountain in Scotland and is one of the Munros . The mountain is located directly to the east of Ben Nevis , the highest British mountain, in the Council Area Highland near Fort William .
The transition from Càrn Mòr Dearg to Ben Nevis is formed by the horseshoe-shaped Càrn Mòr Dearg Arête , a mountain ridge that slopes steeply on both sides . To the north the ridge drops steeply into the Coire Leis, the north faces of Ben Nevis and Càrn Mòr Dearg are among the highest rock faces in the British Isles. The ascent to Ben Nevis via the Càrn Mòr Dearg Arête is one of the most demanding mountain tours in Scotland due to the exposure of the ridge.
