The Geal Chàrn , also known as Mullach Coire an Iubhair , is a 1049 meter high mountain in Scotland classified as Munro and Marilyn . Its Gaelic name can be roughly translated as White Mountain or White Summit .
It is located in the Council Area Highland in the Grampian Mountains east of Spean Bridge between Loch Laggan and Loch Ericht in the secluded mountainous landscape of the Ardverikie Forest . In total there are three Munros and various other peaks in the Ardverikie Forest , of which the Geal Chàrn is the second highest. To the south, separated by An Lairig, which is around 500 meters lower, is the mountain range north of Ben Alder .
The Geal Chàrn is a fairly broad mountain with a wide summit plateau that slopes gently on almost all sides and is characterized by stony moss and heathland. Exceptions are the steeply sloping south side to Loch a 'Bealaich Leamhain and the Coire at Iubhair Mòr , a deeply cut, rocky and steep cirque on the north side. The north ridge of the Geal Chàrn runs to the west of this Kars, and to the east is the striking northeast ridge , known as Sròn Garbh . On the north side as well as the south-east side there are otherwise only a few steeper parts in the deeper areas. To the west of the steep south side there is a transition over the Bealach Leamhain at about 730 meters to the south-west neighboring Beinn a 'Chlachair , the highest peak of the mountain group.
Many Munro excavators combine climbing the Geal Chàrn with the two neighboring Munros Beinn a 'Chlachair and Creag Pitridh . The starting point is a car park on the A86 near the small settlement of Moy , west of Loch Laggan. From there, the approach leads over forest paths and later on hunting trails past Lochan na h-Earba along the Allt Coire Pitridh stream to Bealach Leamhain , from which the extensive summit plateau can be reached via the wide, gently rising west side. Alternatively, the less pronounced north ridge on the west side of the Coire at Iubhair Mòr and the wide south-east slopes can be used as ascents and descents, but require significantly longer marches through partly pathless and uninhabited moor and heathland, starting from Kinloch Laggan or Dalwhinnie .
