Dalwhinnie ( Gaelic : Dail Chuinnidh ) is a village in the Scottish Council Area Highland . It is about 60 km southwest of Inverness and 70 km northwest of Perth .
Climatically, Dalwhinnie is one of the coldest inhabited places in Scotland. The mean annual temperature is only 6.3 ° C.
The Dalwhinnie whiskey distillery has been located there since 1897 . This is the highest active whiskey distillery in Scotland. The current owner is the international Diageo group .
