Abrar Hussain

Syed Abrar Hussain (also known as Ibrar Hussain ; born February 9, 1961 in Quetta , Balochistan ; † June 16, 2011 there ) was a Pakistani boxer .

Career

He made his international debut as a boxer in 1983 at the Asian Championships in Japan , where he won a bronze medal. Hussain took part in the Summer Olympics for Pakistan in 1984 , 1988 and 1992 . At the South Asian Games in Dhaka in 1985 he won gold and was named the best boxer of the tournament, in 1989 in Islamabad Hussain was able to repeat these two successes.

Further stations in his career were the 11th Mini World King's Cup in Bangkok in 1985, the President Cup in Jakarta in 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1990, as well as the 14th Commonwealth Games in 1990 in New Zealand and the South Asian Games in 1991 in Sri Lanka . At the Asian Games in Beijing in 1990 , he won a gold medal in the light heavyweight division.

On June 16, 2011, at around 1:45 p.m., Hussain was shot dead by unknown assailants. He was on his way home when two men on a motorcycle stopped his vehicle and one of them opened fire on him. Hussain, who suffered serious injuries, was transferred to Sandeman Provincial Headquarters Hospital for first aid and then to the Combined Military Hospital . There he succumbed to his injuries.

As a result of his death, the All Pakistan NBP Boxing Championship scheduled for June 16 was canceled.
