Crianlarich is a village in the Stirling Council Area and in the traditional county of Perthshire in Scotland , about ten kilometers northeast of Loch Lomond . The name of the village is derived from the Gaelic word "chrionláraich" (low pass), which is related to the location of the village at the intersection of two valleys.
location
It lies in the Strath Fillan valley in the northwestern foothills of the Trossachs and in the shadow of some Munro peaks. Worth mentioning are, for example, Ben More , but also Stob Binnein and Cruach Ardrain . Crianlarich is located on the West Highland Way and marks about the middle of the path. The village describes itself as the "Gateway to the Highlands ". A not undisputed name, as Pitlochry and Dunoon , for example , also call themselves that.
traffic
Crianlarich has been an important hub for journeys north and west in Scotland for centuries and because of the train station to this day. In the 1750s, two old military roads met in the village. In the nineteenth century the village was connected to the railroad via the West Highland Line , thus enabling a rail link to Glasgow . Today the line separates into its branches to Oban and Fort William in Crianlarich. The important roads A82 and A85 also cross in town. Crianlarich is connected to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Fort William by long-distance bus .
Townscape
Most of the buildings in Crianlarich are on the A85 just before it joins the A82 . In addition to a few residential buildings, there is a police station, bed-and-breakfast accommodation, a youth hostel , a hotel, a church, a primary school, a few pubs and a small village shop in the village. Crianlarich has very little historical building stock and consists mainly of functional buildings from the 20th century.
In 2001 185 people lived in Crianlarich.
