The Binnein Mòr is a Munro and Marilyn classified, 1130 meter high mountain in Scotland . Its Gaelic name can roughly be translated as large lace .
It is located in the Council Area Highland in the southeast of Fort William and Ben Nevis mountain range of the Mamores , the highest peak of which it is. The main chain of the Mamores extends in an east-west direction between the Glen Nevis and the southern village of Kinlochleven and has a total of eight Munros. Two more Munros are a bit off to the east of the main chain.
The Binnein Mòr is located in the eastern part of the Mamores. Its main peak rises as a striking steep peak above the Glen Nevis. From the main summit, the summit ridge runs south to a 1062 meter high pre-summit, where the ridge divides towards the southeast and southwest. To the south-west there is a passage over the narrow and partly rocky ridge to the neighboring Munro Na Gruagaichean via a saddle about 960 meters high . The 956 meter high pre-summit Sgor Eilde Beag connects to the southeast, the east face of which drops steeply into the Coire at Lochain . From the main summit, three other short, steep and rocky ridges run north, northeast and east-northeast, which include two narrow rocky corries , the Achlais a 'Bhinnein Mhòir and the Garbh-choire .
Many Munro excavators combine an ascent of the Binnein Mòr with that of the neighboring Na Gruagaichean , both mountains are connected by a ridge that descends just below 1000 meters. The starting point is Kinlochleven, from there the path first leads over a public footpath towards Spean Bridge and Corrour Station . Above Loch Eilde Mòr , a steep ascent leads over the south ridge of the Sgor Eilde Beag to this pre-summit, from there over the nameless pre-summit where the ridge branches off to Na Gruagaichean to the main summit. There are other access options from Glen Nevis, the normal route leads from there in easy climbing over the northeast ridge to the summit.
