Assynt
The Assynt is located in the north-west of Scotland and is a district in the west of the county of Sutherland .
Since 1993, most of the area has been owned by the Assynt Crofter's Trust .
Tourist attractions include Ardvreck Castle and Calda House on Loch Assynt , An Dun (Clashnessie) and the Old Man of Stoer off the coast of Assynt, and the Falls of Kirkaig south of Lochinver . Achmelvich, Clachtoll and Clashnessie have sandy beaches. The mountains Conival , Quinag , Canisp , Cul Mor and Suilven are among the highest peaks in the area, the highest mountain is Ben More Assynt at 998 m . The Eas a 'Chual Aluinn is the highest waterfall in Great Britain at 200 meters.
There are some caves in Assynt , including the Bone Caves at Inchnadamph , which are considered the deepest caves in Scotland . Their name refers to prehistoric finds; u. a. Remains of bears, reindeer, wild cats and humans have been found here.
