The Falls of Kirkaig (also Kirkaig Falls ) is an 18 meter high waterfall in Scotland . They are located southeast of Lochinver in the River Kirkaig and can be reached via a four-kilometer hiking trail from the small settlement of Inverkirkaig . At this point, the river, which rises from Fionn Loch to the east of the Suilven, flows over a step formed from volcanic rock in the river bed, which otherwise consists of gneiss from the Lewisian . Due to its height, the Falls of Kirkaig represent an insurmountable obstacle for the Atlantic salmon , so its spawning grounds are limited to the river below.
