Carl Thure Henrik von Essen (born October 18, 1940 in Jönköping ) is a former Swedish sword fencer .

successes

Carl von Essen was world champion with the team in Grenoble in 1974 and in Budapest in 1975 . He also won bronze with her in 1966 in Moscow , 1969 in Havana , 1971 in Vienna and 1978 in Hamburg . With bronze, he also secured his only individual World Cup medal in Havana in 1969. He took part in the Olympic Games three times : in 1968 he finished ninth with the team in Mexico City , four years later he was seventh with the team in Munich . In the individual competition, he was eliminated in the first round in 1972. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal he reached the final unbeaten in the team competition, in which the Swedish team beat Germany 8-5. Together with Göran Flodström , Rolf Edling , Leif Högström and Hans Jacobson , Von Essen became Olympic champion .
