Alberto Pellegrino

Alberto Pellegrino (born May 20, 1930 in Tunis , † March 9, 1996 in Milan ) was an Italian fencer . He won two gold and two silver medals at three different Olympic Games. He also won three world titles.

Life

In 1955 he was in Rome team world champion in epee fencing along with Giorgio Anglesio , Franco Bertinetti , Giuseppe Delfino , Edoardo Mangiarotti and Carlo Pavesi . The same team became Olympic champions in Melbourne in 1956. Together with Giorgio Anglesio, Franco Bertinetti, Giuseppe Delfino, Carlo Pavesi and Gianluigi Saccaro , he won the epee team competition in Paris in 1957 and also won bronze with the Italian foil team. In Philadelphia at the 1958 World Championships Edoardo Mangiarotti fought with the team again and they won again, Pellegrino also took bronze with the foil team. At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, he won his second gold medal, also with the Degen team. Here Giuseppe Delfino, Fiorenzo Marini , Carlo Pavesi, Edoardo Mangiarotti and Gianluigi Saccaro belonged to the team.

The Trofeo di Alberto Pellegrino , which takes place every year in Milan in the fencing room ( Sala di Scherma ) of the Palazzo Spinola of the Società del Giardino , is named after Pellegrino .
