Tamás Gábor (born April 24, 1932 in Budapest ; † May 6, 2007 there ) was a Hungarian sword fencer .

successes

Tamás Gábor was world champion with the team in Budapest in 1959 . In 1957 in Paris and 1958 in Philadelphia , he also finished second with the team and third in Gdansk in 1963 . In singles he won bronze in Turin in 1961 and silver in Buenos Aires in 1962 . He took part in the Olympic Games twice: in 1960 in Rome , finishing fourth with the team, he just missed winning a medal. In the individual competition, he was eliminated in the quarter-finals. In the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo Gábor moved in with the Hungarian team into battle for the gold medal and was thanks to an 8: 3 success over Italy with István Kausz , Árpád Bárány , Zoltán Nemere and Győző Kulcsár thus Olympic champion . In 1960 and 1961 he won the Hungarian championships in singles, he was also four times Hungarian champion with the team.

In 1977 and 1980 he was national coach of the Hungarian epee team. In 1996 he was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame .
