Canada took part in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome with a delegation of 85 athletes (74 men and 11 women) in 77 competitions in 14 sports. The only medal success was achieved by the rowing eight, he won the silver medal, as he did four years earlier in Melbourne , this time behind the all-German team . The standard bearer at the opening ceremony was the fencer Carl Schwende .
