Sohen Biln

Sohen "Tommy" Biln (born June 17, 1939 in Westlock , Alberta , † March 27, 2012 in Castlegar , British Columbia ) was a Canadian helmsman in rowing , who won an Olympic silver medal in 1960.

The 1.70 m tall student from the University of British Columbia was successful on his university's boat and also competed internationally for Canada from 1958 to 1960. At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff in 1958 , he won with the Canadian eighth in the cast Archibald MacKinnon , Donald Arnold , Wayne Pretty , Glen Mervyn , Walter D'Hondt , Lorne Loomer , Robert Wilson , William McKerlich and helmsman Sohen Biln. Blin also drove the Canadian four-man helm with Donald Arnold, David Helliwell , Walter D'Hondt and Lawrence Stapleton to the silver medal behind the English four. Canada won 27 medals in Cardiff, the medal in eight was the only gold medal. In 1959, Stapleton, Mervyn and Biln were also part of the crew that won the silver medal in eighth at the 1959 Pan American Games .

At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, the Canadian eighth rowed Donald Arnold, Walter D'Hondt, Nelson Kuhn , John Lecky , Lorne Loomer, Archibald MacKinnon, William McKerlich, Glen Mervyn and Sohen Biln. In the final, the Germany eight won ahead of the Canadians and the boat from Czechoslovakia.

Sohen Biln later worked as a pharmacist.
