David Helliwell

David Leedom Helliwell (born July 26, 1935 in Vancouver , † 1993 ) was a Canadian rower who won an Olympic silver medal in 1956.

David Helliwell of the University of British Columbia was in the Canadian eighth , who played Philip Kueber , Richard McClure , Robert Wilson , David Helliwell, Donald Pretty , William McKerlich , Douglas McDonald , Lawrence West and helmsman Carlton Ogawa in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne competed. In the run-up, the Canadians took second place behind the Australians, in the semi-finals the Canadians won ahead of the Swedes. The eighth from the United States won the final with about two seconds ahead of the Canadians, while the Australians were two seconds behind in third.

At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff in 1958 , the English boat won the four with helmsman ahead of the Canadian four with Donald Arnold , David Helliwell, Walter D'Hondt , Lawrence Stapleton and helmsman Sohen Biln .

David Helliwell graduated in 1959 and then worked in an investment firm.
