William McKerlich

William "Bill" Alister M. McKerlich (born December 2, 1936 in Vancouver ) is a former Canadian rower .

The 1.93 m tall McKerlich rowed in the eighth of the University of British Columbia and qualified with this boat for three major international championships. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956, the eighth won the silver medal behind the US boat. At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff in 1958 , the Canadian eighth won the title. At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, McKerlich was the only remaining rower from the 1956 eighth. In the final, the Germany eight won ahead of the Canadians and the boat from Czechoslovakia.

McKerlich first worked as a teacher in Vancouver, but soon took on duties in the British Columbia Department of Education. In 2002 he published the book Twelve Steps to Reform Canadian Public Education . His son Ian McKerlich rowed at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
