CAN

Canada participated in the 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix with a delegation of twelve athletes in three sports. The Canadian NOK had registered 13 athletes for the games, twelve of whom took part in competitions.

Balance sheet

The Olympic team was basically composed of the ice hockey team, which was reinforced by a speed skater and two figure skaters. The team around captain Duncan Munro consisted mostly of players from the Toronto Granites . Only Harold McMunn ( Winnipeg Falcons ) and Cyril Slater ( Montréal Victorias ) strengthened the team that defended the title of 1920 here in Chamonix and became Olympic champion for the second time. None of the players from 1920 - Canada was represented by the Winnipeg Falcons at the time - were also represented in Chamonix. Since the Olympic tournament was also the second world championship , the Canadians automatically became world champions. In addition to the success of the ice hockey players, the achievements of the figure skaters Cecil Eustace Smith and Melville Rogers as well as the speed skater Charles Gorman look rather pale and are often forgotten.
