The Olympic ice hockey tournament of the 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix ( France ) was the first official ice hockey competition at the Olympic Games. It was also considered the second IIHF - Ice Hockey World Championship . The tournament took place from January 28th to February 3rd, 1924. Eight teams took part. The tournament started with a preliminary round in two groups of four teams. The two winners reached the final round with their direct comparison, in which the medals were then played out. Canada won its second Olympic gold medal and the second world championship title in ice hockey.
