Hjalmar Erik Wilheim "Jerka" Burman (also Eric "Burre" Burman ; * December 6, 1897 in Stockholm ; † March 31, 1985 ibid) was a Swedish ice hockey player who took part in the 1920 Summer Olympics and 1924 Winter Games with the Swedish national team . He and his team took fourth place.

Career

Erik Burman's career is unique in many ways. First he played bandy for IK Göta from 1916 and was nominated for the ice hockey tournament of the 1920 Summer Olympics , in which a Swedish national ice hockey team was set up for the first time. Burman scored the first goal in the history of Swedish ice hockey at this tournament when he scored the 1-0 goal against Belgium on April 23, 1920. Burman was also active on February 1, 1921 in the second ice hockey game on Swedish soil (against Berliner SC) and on February 17, 1921 in the first game between two Swedish teams (IK Göta - IFK Stockholm 13: 0), with Burman five goals in the latter scored.

In 1921 he won the gold medal with the national team at the European Championship , and the silver medal at the European Championship a year later . At the first Olympic Winter Games in 1924 , he again finished fourth with the national team.

Burmann was the first Swedish player who was active in both European and North American ice hockey. In Europe, Burman played between 1921 and 1923 for the Berlin ice skating club and at the Cercle des Patineurs d'Anvers ( Antwerp ). He then went to the United States for four years , where he played for various teams in Michigan and Minnesota , including the YMCA, Detroit 57th Street Phantoms and the Minneapolis Street Runners. In 1928 he returned to IK Göta and won the Swedish championship again with the club in 1929.

On November 26, 1940 he completed his last league game for the IK Göta, where he scored a goal against the IK Sture . With this, Burman set two records - at 42 years, 11 months and 20 days, Burman is the oldest player in the Svenska series to this day , and has also been the league's oldest goalscorer ever since. He then continued to play for the club's second (amateur) team and was active for the Gamla Tre Kronor (old men national team) until the 1970s .

Burman completed a total of 14 seasons in the highest Swedish league and scored 54 goals. He was three times Swedish champion (1923, 1929 and 1930) with the IK Göta. In addition, he ran a total of 34 times for the national team in international matches between 1919 and 1934 and scored 24 goals, he also completed three test matches for the national team against club teams, in which he scored four goals. In May 2012, Burman was posthumously inducted into the Swedish Ice Hockey Hall of Fame .
