At the first Olympic Winter Games in Chamonix in 1924 , a bobsleigh competition was held. Both four-man and five-man bobsleighs were eligible to start. The venue was the natural track Piste de bobsleigh des Pélerins . It had a length of 1,464.97 m and consisted of 19 curves. The difference in altitude between start and finish was 156.29 m.

The race was hit by a thaw. Bob Kismet , driven by Charles Stoffel (Switzerland I) , started the race as the favorite, but fell in the first run and gave up. France II and Italy II suffered the same fate. Eduard Scherrer (Switzerland II) set the fastest time three times. Scherrer's sleigh, which he called Acrobate , had an advantage with its extremely wide runners and reached speeds of up to 70.2 km / h.
Paul Van den Broeck and Victor Verschueren (both Bob Belgium I) also took part in the ice hockey tournament.
Henri Aldebert and Georges André (both Bob France I) also took part in the curling tournament.
