CAN
Canada participated in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi in part with 221 athletes in 14 sports. Chef de Mission was Steve Podborski . The flag bearer of the Canadian delegation at the opening ceremony was the ice hockey player Hayley Wickenheiser , who successfully defended the Olympic victories of 2006 and 2010 with her team. At the closing ceremony, the two bobsleigh riders Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse , who were able to secure the Olympic victory in the two-man bobsleigh competition, carried the flag.
With ten gold, ten silver and five bronze medals, Canada was the third most successful nation in the Games after Russia and Norway . Canadian athletes were not involved in the withdrawal of Russian medals due to doping and the resulting re-award of medals. Canadian athletes won most of the medals in freestyle skiing : nine of the total of 25 medals were won in this discipline, four of which were gold medals. No Canadian Olympic champion has succeeded in winning another medal in addition to the Olympic victory. Only the figure skater Patrick Chan , the single punch couple Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir (each 2 × bronze) and the speed skater Denny Morrison (1 × silver, 1 × bronze) could win two medals .
