Lennard "Len" Väljas (born November 21, 1988 in Toronto ) is a Canadian cross-country skier . His ancestors all come from Estonia .

Career

Väljas mainly participated in the Nor-Am Cup until 2010. The sixth place in the overall ranking was his best result in the 2008/09 season. He ran his first World Cup race in Vancouver in 2009 , which he finished in 46th place in the sprint. At the Canadian Cross Country Ski Championships 2010 in Whitehorse , he won gold in the sprint. Since the 2010/11 season, Väljas has been running in the cross-country skiing world cup . He finished the 2010/11 season in 90th place overall. His best placement was ninth in the sprint. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo , 15th place in the sprint and 12th place with the relay were his best placements. At the Canadian Cross Country Ski Championships 2011 in Canmore , he again won gold in the sprint.

In the 2011/12 season , Väljas in Drammen took his first podium with second place in the sprint. He finished the season in 28th place in the overall standings and 12th place in the sprint standings. At the Tour de Ski 2012/2013 he was able to take 20th place. He was able to take two podium places in the tour with second place over 15 km classic and third place in the sprint. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme , he was twelfth with the relay and reached 40th place in the sprint. He finished the World Cup in 23rd place in the overall ranking and eighth in the sprint ranking. At the Canadian Cross Country Ski Championships 2013 in Whistler , he won gold in the sprint. In the 2013/14 season , 34th place was his best result and did not get any World Cup points during the season. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he reached 36th place in the sprint and 12th place in the relay. In February 2015, at the 2015 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun, he took 14th place in the sprint, 13th place in the team sprint and tenth place in the relay. In the 2015/16 season he made it into the points four times in the World Cup. His best placement was tenth place in the sprint in Oberstdorf . In March 2016 he came in at the Canadian cross-country skiing championships in Whitehorse over 10 km classic and second in the sprint. At the start of the 2016/17 season, he finished 48th in the World Cup mini tour in Lillehammer . In the further course of the season he won his first World Cup victory in Toblach together with Alex Harvey in the team sprint and achieved third place with the relay in Ulricehamn . At the season highlight of the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , he came in 48th place in the sprint and sixth place together with Alex Harvey in the team sprint. At the end of the season he finished 54th in the World Cup final in Québec and reached 41st place in the overall World Cup and 16th place in the Sprint World Cup. The following year he finished ninth in the relay at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , eighth in the team sprint with Alex Harvey and seventh in the sprint.

In the 2018/19 season, Väljas was Canadian champion over 10 km classic and in pursuit in Gatineau and took 50th place in the sprint, 47th place over 15 km classic, 12th place at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld in Tyrol . Place with the relay and tenth place together with Evan Palmer-Charrette in the team sprint.
