At the XXII. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , ten competitions (five each for men and women) were held in alpine skiing . The Rosa Chutor Alpine Center near Krasnaya Polyana , around 70 kilometers east of Sochi, was the venue for all alpine ski races .

The FIS's application to start the team competition was rejected by the IOC in July 2011 . As a dress rehearsal, a downhill run for women and men as well as a super combination of men on the Olympiapist took place in February 2012 as part of the Ski World Cup . The women-super combination had to be canceled due to bad weather. These were the first ever World Cup races in Russia .
