biography

Missillier grew up in the village of Le Grand-Bornand . In December 1999 he competed in the first FIS races , in January 2003 the first appearances in the European Cup followed . At the Junior World Championships in 2003 in Montgenèvre , he was fifth in the slalom. However, he was unable to confirm this performance in the following two years, and in his first World Cup race at the end of 2004 he was unsuccessful .

On March 5, 2006 Missillier drove in the giant slalom of Yongpyong , his third appearance in the World Cup, to twelfth place and won World Cup points for the first time. In the 2006/07 season he confirmed his upward trend with five placements among the top 15. At the 2007 World Championships in Åre , however, he failed at his only start in the giant slalom. The 2007/08 season went even better : with six further placings in the World Cup points, including an eleventh place in Kitzbühel , he established himself in the extended world elite. In the 2007/08 European Cup he finished fourth in the slalom classification with two wins and a third place.

On November 16, 2008, Missillier reached eighth place in the Levi slalom, his first top 10 placement in the World Cup. On February 28, 2009, he finished in the top five for the first time in the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora . At the 2009 World Championships in Val-d'Isère , he finished sixth in slalom. In the 2009/10 season he reached 15th place in the Slalom World Cup, his best placement in a discipline classification so far. In the Giant Slalom World Cup he was 18th, as in the previous year. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , he was the best Frenchman in the giant slalom, finishing 13th, but was unable to do so in the slalom.

On December 12, 2010, the Frenchman achieved his first podium in the World Cup with third place in the Val-d'Isère slalom. He finished in the top ten five more times in the 2010/11 season . At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he failed in the first slalom run. In the winter of 2011/12 , Missillier was among the top ten in eight World Cup races, with his best result being fourth in the slalom in Kitzbühel . Five top 10 placings were recorded in winter 2012/13 , with a fifth place as the best result. At the 2014 Winter Olympics , he won the silver medal in the giant slalom; it was also his first podium finish in this discipline.

In May 2019 Missillier announced his retirement from elite sport.
