Denise Feierabend (born April 15, 1989 in Engelberg ) is a former Swiss ski racer . She was a member of the Swiss-Ski national team and competed in all disciplines, with her best results in the slalom and super combined . The greatest success of her career was the 2018 Olympic victory in the team competition .
biography
In December 2004, Feierabend started her first FIS race . The first use in the European Cup followed in January 2006. With numerous results in the front midfield, she did not seem to attract particularly attention at first. On February 9, 2008, however, she became Swiss junior champion in slalom in Sörenberg and received a starting place in the World Cup from her coaches . Six days later, after work in Zagreb, a World Cup slalom started for the first time; with the high starting number 54, she finished 18th and won her first World Cup points.
At the beginning of the 2008/09 season she was able to improve again in her third World Cup appearance, the slalom in Levi , and reach 13th place, which was her best World Cup result over three years. In three other World Cup slaloms, she was among the fastest 20 this winter. Her greatest success so far was sixth place in the slalom at the 2009 World Cup in Val-d'Isère . Shortly after the World Championship in February 2009, Denise Feierabend won her first race in the European Cup at the slalom in Zakopane . On March 1, 2009, she became Junior World Champion in slalom in Garmisch-Partenkirchen .
In the 2009/10 season Feierabend could only score twice in the World Cup, which is why it was mainly used in the European Cup in the second half of the season. In the 2010/11 season she started again in the World Cup and qualified with three placements in the top 15 for the World Championship in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . There she reached 6th place in the super combination. On January 27, 2012, Feierabend achieved her first top 10 result in the World Cup when she finished sixth in the first super combination of the 2011/12 season in St. Moritz . Five weeks later, on March 1st, 2012, she suffered a cruciate ligament rupture and a meniscus injury in her right knee during slalom training in Ofterschwang .
After she had to take a break for the entire 2012/13 season, Feierabend made her comeback on November 16, 2013 and finished 10th in Levi's slalom , which was also her best result in this discipline. At the season finale in Lenzerheide on March 14, 2014, she and the Swiss team won the team competition, which is only part of the Nations Cup, ahead of the USA and Austria . On March 13, 2016 she reached fourth place in the combination of Lenzerheide and achieved the best World Cup result of her career. She also finished fourth in the World Cup slalom in Killington on November 26, 2017 .
At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , Feierabend won the gold medal in the team competition held for the first time on February 24 in the Swiss team (with Wendy Holdener , Luca Aerni , Daniel Yule and Ramon Zenhäusern ). On April 8, 2018, three weeks after the end of the season, she announced her retirement from top-class sport.
