Zenhäuser comes from Visp in the canton of Valais . He attended the college in Brig and is currently studying economics at the Fernuni. Its outstanding feature is the height of two meters, which is unusual for a slalom specialist. Since he has shoe size 48, he wears ski boots specially adapted for him .
At the age of 15, Zenhäusern first took part in FIS races from November 2007 , whereby a specialization in technical disciplines became apparent early on. In January 2011 he was used for the first time in the European Cup . He celebrated his first victory in an FIS race in December 2011. In the same month the first European Cup points followed, in March 2012 the first participation in the Junior World Championships. At the Swiss Championships in 2012 , he narrowly missed the slalom championship title, 22 hundredths behind Markus Vogel .
On November 11, 2012, Zenhäusern made his debut in the World Cup , but missed the second round. He won his first World Cup points on January 13, 2013 at Chuenisbärgli in Adelboden , where he finished 22nd in the slalom. He was confirmed a week later with 21st place in Wengen . Because of these achievements, he qualified for the 2013 World Cup in Schladming . At the Junior World Championships in 2013 he won the silver medal in slalom and the gold medal at the 2015 Winter Universiade in the Sierra Nevada . On December 2, 2015, he won a European Cup slalom for the first time in Hemsedal .
In the first few years, Zen houses struggled to assert themselves in the World Cup; he was classified in the midfield or was often eliminated (for example at the World Championships in 2013 and 2017). He achieved his first top 10 result in a World Cup race on January 10, 2016 in the Adelboden slalom. With places 6 in Kitzbühel and 4 in Wengen, he advanced to the top of the world in mid-January 2018. On January 30, 2018, he surprisingly won the City Event in Stockholm (when he participated for the first time). It was his first victory and his first podium in the World Cup, with which he confirmed his rising form. On February 22, 2018, he achieved his greatest success to date by winning the silver medal in slalom at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . Two days later, on February 24th, the 25-year-old won the gold medal in the team competition held for the first time in the Swiss team (with Wendy Holdener , Denise Feierabend , Luca Aerni and Daniel Yule ). At the closing ceremony of the Winter Games, he was allowed to carry the Swiss flag due to his successes. A week later, in Kranjska Gora , he finished on the podium for the first time (third place) in a World Cup slalom.
Zenhäuser won another gold medal in the team competition at the 2019 World Cup in Åre . In slalom he finished fifth in Åre. He built on his good record at City Events in 2019 with a win in Stockholm and third place in Oslo . In Kranjska Gora , he moved up from 7th to 1st place with the fastest time in the second round and celebrated his first World Cup victory in slalom.
↑ The first two places went to the French Thomas Mermillod Blondin and Gabriel Rivas , but foreign participants do not receive any medals. Therefore, Zenhäusern took second place in the slalom championship.
