Markus Vogel (born January 12, 1984 in Stans ) is a former Swiss ski racer . His specialty was slalom .

biography

The bird, who lives in Beckenried , completed an apprenticeship as an electrician. He stood on skis for the first time at the age of three. In 2002, he was in the junior national team of the Swiss Ski Association Swiss-Ski was added two years later he converted to the C-squad. From 2008 he was in the B-squad, in 2011 he was promoted to the A-squad, but in 2012 again from the B-squad.

Vogel contested his first international FIS races in December 1999. He started the European Cup for the first time in January 2003, and his first victory in this racing series was the Garmisch-Partenkirchen slalom on February 17, 2008. Vogel made his debut in the Ski World Cup on January 6th, 2008 in the Adelboden slalom . Vogel never crossed the finish line in the first eight races; only in his ninth World Cup race, the slalom of Kitzbühel on January 25th, 2009, he finished 19th and scored World Cup points for the first time. In the 2009/10 season, Vogel was used more often in the European Cup and only rarely in the World Cup. At the end of the 2010 season, he became Swiss slalom champion for the first time .

Since the 2010/11 season , Vogel started again regularly in the World Cup. Towards the end of this winter, on March 6, 2010, he achieved his first top 10 result with seventh place in the slalom of Kranjska Gora . After he did not get beyond 16th place in the following season 2011/12 , he finished sixth in the night slalom of Madonna di Campiglio on December 18, 2012 for the second time among the top ten, with which he achieved his best World Cup result so far.

Vogel announced the end of his career in March 2016.
