A team competition in alpine skiing is a competition between several teams.

history

The introduction of the team competition in alpine skiing was a reaction to the popular successes of the team competition in Nordic skiing .

A dress rehearsal in the European Cup on March 11, 2004 in the Sierra Nevada ( Spain ) was followed by the premieres at the World Cup on February 13, 2005 in Bormio ( Italy ), the World Cup on March 19, 2006 in Åre ( Sweden ) and the Olympic Winter Games on February 24, 2018 in Pyeongchang ( South Korea ).

regulate

The FIS rules stipulate that five athletes form a team, with the three best times added up for the competition. Two special forms of team competition are the “Combined Team Event” and the “Alpine Team Event”.

Combined team event

The "Combined Team Event" is a mixed combination of Super-G and slalom . A team consists of a maximum of six athletes. The competition consists of two runs from four series each. Two women and two men take part in a race for one team. For each series, the teams receive penalty points in the amount of their respective placements. The team with the fewest penalty points after both runs wins.

The team competition at professional level was held in this mode from 2005 to 2009.

Alpine team event

The "Alpine Team Event" is an in Mixed be transmitted parallel giant slalom . A team consists of a maximum of six athletes. The competition consists of several rounds of four duels each. Two women and two men take part in one round for one team. For each duel, the winning team receives one point. The team with more points moves on to the next round (in the event of a tie, the sum of the fastest women's time and the fastest men's time is decisive).

The team competition at professional level has been held in this mode since 2010.
