biography

Sandro Simonet comes from Tiefencastel and starts for SC Lenzerheide - Valbella .

At the age of 15 he competed in his first FIS races . In January 2012 he took part in the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck , where he celebrated his first major successes. After winning the bronze medal in the super combined and giant slalom, he secured the gold medal in slalom with almost two seconds ahead of second-placed Dries Van den Broecke . In December 2013 he made his debut in the slalom of Pozza di Fassa in the European Cup . Simonet competed in all races at two Junior World Championships and achieved eighth place in the downhill ( Sotschi 2016 ) and a ninth slalom rank ( Hafjell 2015 ) as the best results . While he concentrated increasingly on the technical disciplines, he celebrated his first European Cup victory on February 23, 2017 in the combination of Sarntal .

On November 13, 2016, he made his World Cup debut in the Levi slalom and immediately won points with 27th place. He achieved a second place in the top 30 with 25th place in the slalom of Madonna di Campiglio in December 2017 , but due to the too long time gap he did not win any points. Towards the end of the season he was classified eighth in the slalom of Kranjska Gora for the first time among the top ten. At the 2019 World Cup , he won the gold medal in the team competition , but was not used as a substitute driver.
