biography

Eva-Maria Brem has been skiing for the WSV Reith im Alpbachtal ski club since she was four . She attended the ski school in Stams and has been a member of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) since 2004 . At the Junior World Championships 2006 in Mont Sainte-Anne , she won the bronze medal in the giant slalom. In the following year she was able to repeat this result at the Junior World Championships 2007 in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee and Flachau and won bronze medals in both the giant slalom and the Super-G . She won another bronze medal at the 2008 Junior World Championships in Formigal in the combined ranking .

Brem is four times Austrian national champion . 2006 she won the slalom and giant slalom, in 2007 they won the title in the combination , in 2013 those in the giant slalom. In the 2006/07 season she won two giant slaloms in the European Cup .

Her first race in the World Cup was the slalom in Lienz on December 29, 2005 . After that, it was not used again until January 2007 in the super combination of Altenmarkt-Zauchensee , where it was 29th where it took her first World Cup points. On November 24, 2007, she surprisingly reached fifth place in the giant slalom at Panorama . After two years without a top 10 result, she managed to place fifth again on November 28, 2009 in the giant slalom in Aspen . At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, she finished seventh in the giant slalom. After the season she rose to the national team of the ÖSV, a year later, however, back from the A-team.

On April 2, 2010, Brem suffered a broken tibia and fibula in his left leg while skiing. From November 2010 she started again in some World and European Cup races, but only contested a significantly reduced racing program in the 2010/11 season. In the 2011/12 World Cup season she won the team competition for the season finale in Schladming with Michaela Kirchgasser , Marcel Mathis and Philipp Schörghofer .

Brem could not qualify for the 2013 World Championships in Schladming due to insufficient results . For the same reason, she was not given a starting place for the 2014 Winter Olympics . Immediately after the games, however, she achieved a significant increase in performance: as third in the giant slalom in Åre , she achieved her first World Cup podium on March 6, 2014. Ten days later, she climbed to second place at the giant slalom World Cup final on Lenzerheide . After finishing 3rd in the first giant slalom of the season in Sölden , she celebrated her first World Cup victory on November 29, 2014 in the giant slalom in Aspen . At the 2015 World Ski Championships in Vail / Beaver Creek , she won the gold medal in the team competition, while she was eliminated in the giant slalom as a co-favorite in the first round.

In the 2015/16 season , Eva-Maria Brem narrowly won the giant slalom discipline and won her first crystal ball. In 2016 she was voted Sportswoman of the Year . After she finished 26th in the giant slalom in Sölden on October 22nd, she suffered a broken tibia and fibula in her left leg in preparation for the 2016/17 World Cup season in early November 2016, as in 2010, and fell with it the entire winter.

In April 2017, Brem changed materials from Völkl to Fischer .
