On March 2, 1999, the people of Killington decided to revert to the original name; this decision was approved by the Vermont General Assembly , so that the town since July 1, 1999 is again called Killington.

Killington was one of thirteen Vermont towns that were cut off from the outside world on August 28, 2011 by flooding related to Hurricane Irene ; Killington was inaccessible for 19 days.

Killington voters have twice voted in favor of Vermont secession and New Hampshire accession . The motivations are a perceived inequality in taxes paid to Vermont in relation to benefits received. However, these votes are only symbolic as the state governments of both Vermont and New Hampshire would have to approve.
