Pittsfield is a town in Rutland County of the state of Vermont in the United States with 546 inhabitants (according to the 2010 census).

Geographical location
Pittsfield is in northeast Rutland County, in the Green Mountains . The area of the town is interspersed with hills and valleys. Two tributaries of the White River flow through the town and meet near the settlement of Pittsfield. The highest point is Wilcox Peak with a height of 863 m.

history
The Grant for Pittsfield was given by Thomas Chittenden on November 8, 1780 to Samuel Wilcox and 129 other settlers. This was recorded on July 29, 1781. Settlement began in 1786. Parts of the area were given to Rochester in 1806 and 1824 and to Stockbridge in 1813 and 1822.
Two tributaries of the White River meet in Pittsfield and this caused great destruction in Pittsfield during Hurricane Irene . Pittsfield was one of the most hurricane-damaged areas in Vermont.
Religions
The Methodist Church organized a congregation in Pittsfield in 1805 and the Congregational Church in 1803.

traffic
The Vermont State Route 100 runs in a north-south direction along the eastern border of the Town, of Rochester to Killington and mostly follows the course of White River. The White River Railroad (Vermont) led with a freight line in one of the valleys of Pittsfield.

There is no hospital of its own in Pittsfield. The closest hospital is the Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland .

Pittsfield does not have its own school in the town area. The closest schools are in Killington, Bethel and Chittenden.
