Bridgewater is a town in Windsor County , Vermont , United States with 936 residents (2010 census).
geography
Geographical location
The place is in the western area of Windsor County, in the eastern foothills of the Green Mountains . The terrain is hilly. Some smaller rivers flow through the town and in the southern area the US Highway 4 runs from Woodstock in the east to Killington in the west. Highway 4 follows the course of the Ottauquechee River .

In the town area are the Hamlets Bridgewater Village, Bridgewater Corners, West Bridgewater and Bridgewater Center which was originally known as Briggs.

history
Bridgewater was founded on July 10, 1761 as a New Hampshire Grant . A group of 61 people, including the future first Governor of New Hampshire Meshech Weare , acquired the grant. The town was probably named by Benning Wentworth after Francis Egerton, 3rd Duke of Bridgewater .
Sources of income for the residents of the town were agriculture and the production of economic goods.
Religions
There is one church in Bridgewater, the congregational Bridgewater Congregational Church .
The first parish of the congregational church was established in 1793. The parish church was built in 1828. A Universalist Church of America church was built in 1829, but it burned down a few years later. There are also Baptist and Methodist churches .

The main route in Bridgewater is US Highway 4, which runs east to west, from Woodstock in the east to Killington in the west. The closest passenger rail stations are in Killington and Rutland .

The Bridgewater Village School merged with the Pomfret Elementary School in March 2015. The new school is now called The Prosper Valley School and is located in Pomfret. She has classes from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Bridgewater is part of the Windsor Central Supervisory Union . High school students attend Woodstock Union Middle School and High School . The nearest colleges are in Hanover, New Hampshire , Norwich and Middlebury , the nearest university in Plymouth, New Hampshire .
