biography

As a teenager, Erin Mielzynski, like her older sister Jenna, was a successful water skier. She won several titles at Canadian championships and in 2006 the silver medal in jumping at the U17 World Championship.

In alpine skiing, Mielzynski competed in her first FIS race in December 2005. Since the 2006/07 season she has been competing in the Nor-Am Cup . The best result of her first winter was 14th place in Panorama Super-G on December 11th. In the 2007/08 season she was already in the top ten five times and achieved her first podium places with second place in the super combination on Whiteface Mountain and third place in the Craigleith slalom . She reached second place in the super combination classification, seventh place in the slalom classification and eighth place in the overall classification. This also enabled her to join the Canadian Ski Association team. Since then she has not taken part in any water skiing competitions and now focuses exclusively on alpine skiing.

In the 2008/09 season , the Canadian was again five times in the top ten, but this time did not achieve any podiums. In March she took part in the Junior World Championships 2009 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , where she was only able to classify in the lower ranks with 43rd place in the giant slalom and 44th place in the Super-G. In the slalom, she dropped out in the second run.

On November 29, 2009 Mielzynski first took part in a World Cup race in Aspen . In this slalom she got her first World Cup point with rank 30. In the rest of the winter she could not score in the World Cup, but at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver she reached 20th place in the slalom. At the 2010 Junior World Championship in the Mont Blanc region , she finished seventh in the slalom. She finished the 2009/10 season of the Nor-Am Cup with two podium places in second place in the slalom classification and eighth place overall.

In the World Cup, Mielzynski achieved her first top 15 result in the 2010/11 season with 13th place in the Zwiesel slalom . At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , she reached 16th place in the slalom, with the best time of all those started in the second round. At the end of the 2010/11 season , she won her first victories in the Nor-Am-Cup . Mielzynski was able to establish himself near the top of the world during the 2011/12 World Cup season. On March 4, 2012, she surprisingly won the Ofterschwang slalom . This makes her the first Canadian World Cup slalom winner since January 21, 1971, when Betsy Clifford won the gold key race in Schruns .

On December 1, 2013, Mielzynski scored for the first time in a World Cup giant slalom when she finished 16th in Beaver Creek . However, in her stronger discipline, slalom, she hardly achieved satisfactory results and gradually lost contact with the world's best. It wasn't until January 2015 that she was able to achieve a top 10 result again. At the 2015 World Championships in Vail / Beaver Creek , she surprisingly won the silver medal in the team competition .
