Elizabeth "Betsy" Clifford (born October 15, 1953 in Ottawa ) is a former Canadian ski racer .

biography

The highlight of her career was winning the world championship title in giant slalom at the World Ski Championships in Val Gardena in 1970 , which made her the youngest female alpine world champion in history at the age of 16 (up to now Esmé MacKinnon , the first female world champion in 1931) who was 17 years, 2 months and 17 days young when she first won the title on February 19). She also won the silver medal in downhill skiing at the 1974 World Ski Championships in St. Moritz .

In the Ski World Cup she was able to triumph once in the giant slalom and twice in the slalom . In the 1970/71 season she took first place in the Slalom World Cup, tied with Britt Lafforgue . In the course of her career she was Canadian champion seven times (giant slalom 1973 and 1975; slalom 1973, 1974 and 1976; combination 1973 and 1975).
