The sister of the giant slalom Olympic fourth of Sapporo Laurie Kreiner won the gold medal in the giant slalom at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck and thus prevented the total triumph of Rosi Mittermaier , who finished second in this race. At the age of 14, Kathy Kreiner was already awarded start no. 37 Sixth in the Downhill World Cup on January 18, 1972 in Grindelwald , took part in the 1972 Winter Olympics and was a member of the Canadian national team. From 1973 to 1977 she was one of the top giant slalom runners. After the rather disappointing seasons 1979–1980, she left the national team, hired her own trainer and landed in the first World Cup downhill in 1980/81 in second place. In the spring of 1981, she ended her career. Kreiner was in the top ten a total of 45 times in World Cup races, including 7 podiums.
