biography

Roffe-Steinrotter was born in Warsaw and grew up in Williamson near Rochester . She started skiing at the age of two. In the Ski World Cup, she won two races, a giant slalom and a Super-G . Her first high point in her career as a ski racer was in 1985, when she surprisingly (as a runner in the 2nd starting group at the time, had start number 19) in Santa Caterina - after finishing 5th in the first run - became world champion in giant slalom. At 17 years, 10 months and 13 days she was the second youngest giant slalom world champion behind the 1970 gold medalist Betsy Clifford , who at 16 years and 4 months was clearly the youngest alpine world champion in history (as of January 2018). In September 1990 she won the gold medal in the giant slalom at the Pan American Games in Las Leñas .

At the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , she won the silver medal in giant slalom (ex aequo with Anita Wachter ); On February 19, 1992, she worked her way up 7 places on the "Piste du Corbe" in Méribel . - In 1994 she crowned her career with an Olympic victory in the Super-G in Lillehammer . She announced her resignation in 1994.
