The 28th Alpine World Ski Championships took place from January 31 to February 10, 1985 in Bormio and Santa Caterina Valfurva in Italy . The award was made by the FIS at its 34th Congress in 1983 in Sydney . At the same time, the decision was made here not to award any more World Championship medals at the Olympic Games and instead to hold the World Championship every two years.

Worth mentioning

  • There was only one title defense, u.zw. in the ladies combination; however, two title holders from 1982 were no longer there because of the end of their careers.
  • After the non-permission to start at last year's Olympic Winter Games, Ingemar Stenmark , who had a so-called "B license", was allowed to take part in a major event again.
  • As in the 1984 Olympic Games, Austria remained without a gold medal; it was the first time since 1966 that the women's downhill gold medal went to France.
  • The women's downhill had to be canceled and held again, so that both the men's and the women's downhill were carried out on the same day, which was practically a repetition of the scenario from the 1984 Olympic Games - this had only been the case at world championships so far , u.zw. 1962.

TV broadcasts

ORF planned to broadcast for 30 hours, including the studio programs .

Men

Marc Girardelli received permission to participate from the FIS . Although he was not yet a citizen of Luxembourg , he had applied to the local authorities to do so. There were several protests when FIS President Marc Hodler granted the start permit.
