At the beginning of his career De Chiesa won the gold medal in slalom at the Junior European Championships in 1974 in Jasná . From next winter he was also successful in the World Cup . He was mainly specialized in slalom and achieved no less than 12 podiums in this discipline - the first on December 17, 1974 at the 3-Tre races in Madonna di Campiglio , the last on December 10, 1984 in Sestriere . However, he was not granted a victory. 1974/75 and 1981/82 he had his best years and was fourth in the Slalom World Cup. In the giant slalom he only achieved several top 10 results in the winter of 1974/75. After the 1985/86 season he resigned.
In his two World Cup participations he was fourth ( Schladming 1982 ) and sixth ( Bormio 1985 ) in slalom. At the Olympic Games he remained without a result: in 1980 and 1984 he was eliminated in the first slalom round.
