biography
Riedlsperger, who lives in Maishofen , started skiing at the age of three. After success in school and youth competitions, he was accepted into the squad of the Austrian Ski Association at the end of the 1970s . In the European Cup , Salzburg competed in the 1979/80 season . This winter he drove on the podium in three giant slaloms and thus achieved third place in the discipline ranking. At the European Junior Championships he came second in the combination. In the 1980/81 European Cup season he won the giant slalom in Jasná as well as two combination ratings and took another four podium places in downhill and giant slalom. He won the overall standings by a clear margin over the Swiss Peter Lüscher and was third in both the downhill and giant slalom.
Riedlsperger had his first start in the World Cup on January 4, 1981 in the giant slalom in Ebnat-Kappel , where he finished 13th at the same time as Wolfram Ortner . In the 1981/82 season , the Salzburg man was twice in the top ten in the giant slaloms in Aprica and Cortina d'Ampezzo , with sixth place in Aprica remaining his best ever World Cup result. At the 1982 World Cup in Schladming , he was only used in combination and took eighth place.
In the next winter, his performance in the World Cup dropped significantly, and he started again increasingly in the European Cup, in which he took third place in the overall and giant slalom rankings in the 1982/83 season with one win and two third places. At the 1983 Military World Championships in Lillehammer , he won the giant slalom with the Hochfilzen troop . In the 1983/84 World Cup season he came back twice in the points, but he could not qualify for the Olympic Games . The 1984/85 season went better . Riedlsperger came in a total of seven times under the fastest 15 in all disciplines, except downhill. His best result was ninth place in the Super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . This enabled him to take part in the 1985 World Cup in Bormio . Although he only finished 22nd in the combined descent, with second place in the slalom he still won the silver medal in the combination. The Salzburg man was also used in the special slalom, but was eliminated in the first round.
Due to a serious injury that he sustained in an FIS race , Riedlsperger did not achieve his previous performance in the next few years. At the national level, however, he achieved two successes when he became Austrian champion in combination in 1987 and 1988 . The attempt to qualify for the World Cup via the European Cup was unsuccessful and so he ended his career in spring 1988.
Riedlsperger completed a sports degree and then became head of the ski school in Saalbach-Hinterglemm .
