Maria Walliser (born May 27, 1963 in Mosnang ) is a former Swiss ski racer .
Career
It is true that on December 3, 1980, when she finished 9th in the downhill run at the season opener in Val-d'Isère , she achieved her first World Cup points, in the combined ranking of Zwiesel on 3/4. In February 1981 she even came in second place, and surprisingly in third place in the slalom at the final of Wangs - Pizol on March 24, 1981, but it did not arouse the first great media interest until the 1982 World Ski Championships in Schladming (pronounced: Haus im Ennstal , where the women's competitions were held): She won the combined downhill on January 31st.
In her career from 1983 to 1990, she won a total of 25 World Cup races, making her one of the most successful ski racers of all time. With the exception of slalom , she was able to win in all disciplines. She celebrated her first victory in 1983 on the downhill from Megève . At the 1984 Olympic Games in Sarajevo , she won the silver medal behind Michela Figini . In 1986 and 1987 she won the overall World Cup twice. She also won the Downhill World Cup in 1984 and 1986 and the Super G World Cup in 1987.
The highlight of her career was winning gold medals in downhill and super-G as well as the bronze medal in giant slalom at the 1987 World Ski Championships in Crans-Montana . She repeated her victory in the downhill at the 1989 World Ski Championships in Vail ahead of Karen Percy and Karin Dedler .
In 1986 and 1987 Walliser was voted Swiss Sportswoman of the Year , and in 1986 she was awarded the Skieur d'Or by the International Association of Ski Journalists (AIJS) . In March 1990 Walliser declared your active career over.
After resigning, she married her partner Guido Anesini. She has been involved in viticulture since the end of her career and has been President of the Swiss Folic Acid Offensive Foundation since 2000 . This is strongly related to her own daughter, who was born with spina bifida in 1991 .
Maria Walliser is a member of the board of directors of an outfitter at Swiss-Ski and she was the coordinator of a junior team. Their second daughter Noemi has followed in mum's footsteps and is active in skiing.
