Paula Wiesinger (born February 27, 1907 in Bozen ; † June 12, 2001 on the Seiser Alm ) was a South Tyrolean mountaineer, ski racer and restaurateur.

biography

Wiesinger was one of the sixth degree pioneers . It opened up new difficult routes in the Dolomites : on the Civetta , the east route of the Rosengartenspitze , the south route of the Winklerturm and the south edge of Punta Emma (both Rosengartengruppe ).

Wiesinger was also an excellent and successful ski racer. From 1931 to 1936 she won a total of 15 Italian championship titles . In 1932 she became the downhill world champion in Cortina d'Ampezzo . She also came in sixth in the combination . She was able to confirm her success the following year with a fourth place in the downhill at the World Championships in Innsbruck . In 1934 she was fifth again in the slalom in St. Moritz .

Wiesinger later acquired the Dellai Hut on the Alpe di Siusi with her husband and climbing partner Hans Steger, which she expanded into the Hotel Steger-Dellai, which still exists today. After her death, the foundation established by the Stegers caused a sensation because the heirs suspected the appointed administrator Bruno Steiner from Mittersill (A) to be an inheritance stealer and challenged the will in court. However, all allegations turned out to be completely baseless. The decision to set up the foundation had already been taken during Hans Steger's lifetime and thus a few years before Bruno Steiner joined the hotel as leaseholder. Since the couple remained childless, there were no direct heirs and the foundation was the only way to continue the life's work as a whole. The tasks of the foundation include a. the preservation and promotion of the Alpe di Siusi as a nature reserve. In 2006 the "Hans and Paula Steger hiking trail" was opened on the Alpe di Siusi in memory of the two.
